Alfred Caves

The Nesting Ground of Edible-Nest Swiftlets

The caves serve as one of the few natural habitats for the endemic Edible-nest Swiftlet (Aerodramus fuciphagus). These remarkable birds construct nests entirely from solidify saliva, highly prized in traditional Asian culinary and medicinal traditions. Hearing the echo of thousands of swiftlets and fruit bats inside the cavernous openings is an unforgettable sensory experience.

A Geological Wonder Millions of Years in the Making

Formed over millennia by chemical weathering and underground water flow, the subterranean passages contain subterranean stalactites, stalagmites, and narrow karst chimneys. The cave interiors maintain a cool microclimate year-round, offering natural shelter from the tropical heat.

The Rainforest Trek

Reaching the caves requires a 1- to 1.5-hour trek through dense, shaded jungle canopy. Along the trail, trekkers can spot native flora, Andaman hornbills, emerald doves, and vibrant tropical insects.
